PROJO 07/27/2009 08:25 AM EDT : Stimulus Money Arrives for the Arts Federal funds are flowing to Rhode Island arts organizations. The
Rhode Island State Council on the Arts is awarding grants totaling
$291,500 to 18 local arts groups through a federal stimulus program.
The grants are given through the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act. Nationwide the program is distributing some $50 million to arts
organizations. In addition to the federal funds, the local arts
organizations are receiving an additional $100,000 from the Rhode
Island Foundation. In addition, the National Endowment for the Arts
recently awarded four Rhode Island arts organizations grants totaling
$150,000: Community Music Works in Providence ($50,000), Rhode Island
Philharmonic Orchestra in East Providence ($50,000), and FirstWorks and
Everett Dance Theatre, both in Providence, ($25,000 each). Here are the recipients of the federal stimulus grants: Blackstone River Theatre in Cumberland, $25,000. Colonial Theatre in Westerly, $25,000. Courthouse Center for the Arts in South Kingstown, $12,500. Fantasy Works Youth Theatre in North Kingstown, $14,825. Flickers, the Newport Film and Video Society in Newport, $12,500. Gateways to Change in Warwick, $25,000. Island Moving Company in Newport, $25,000. Newport Art Museum, $25,000. Old Slater Mill in Pawtucket, $25,000. Project New Urban Arts in Providence, $25,000. Providence CITYARTS for Youth, $25,000. RISD Museum in Providence, $25,000. Redwood Library in Newport, $12,500. Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre in Pawtucket, $25,000. 2nd Story Theatre in Warren, $25,000. Tomaquag Indian Memorial Museum in Exeter, $25,000. VSA Arts of Rhode Island in Pawtucket, $12,500.
